The Natural Hair Edit

26th February 2016

I’m currently taking a short break from wearing extensions and whilst I’m counting down the days until my next appointment, there are some undeniable silver linings to this short, boring and devoid of volume hair cloud.

Besides the fact it doesn’t take seven-hundred hours to blow dry my hair at the moment, I’m also loving being able to reach for my oils and sprays which are completely incompatible with keratin bond extensions.

I thought that whilst taking this hair hiatus it would be good to post about some of the high street hair products for natural hair I love.

I’ve rounded up the six products I’m using at the moment to achieve glossy, healthy hair. I’m trying to give my hair a much needed break from heat styling, so if I’m not going out I tend to opt for minimum styling.

First up are three products by Lee Stafford, which I find are awesome for achieving and keeping super straight hair. Photographed above is Night Patrol spray from the Poker Straight range, which is a life safer, especially for work. To save time in the mornings I style my hair and straighten before bed, applying a small covering of this to the top layer of my hair and combing through. It’s really light, leaving next to no noticeable product in your hair the next day but it helps hold the styling whilst letting a night’s sleep give it more of a natural look than freshly straightened hair.

I’m also a big fan of the detangling spray, which I use on dry ends whilst damp before brushing through. A year of ombre has left the ends of my hair in bad condition and whilst it’s almost all grown out, this product is perfect for masking the frizz and avoiding more damage when brushing.

Lastly from Lee Stafford, when using straighteners I love this heat protection spray which also helps hold a straight look.

Next is probably my most beloved product and the one I have the hardest time giving up … Moroccan Oil. I would attribute most the improvement I’ve made in my hair condition to this little beauty.

And whilst not strictly high street, I’ve included this GHD style total volume foam as it’s my go-to product when I don’t want to do much heat styling. I apply a pump of this to wet hair then blow dry on a low heat setting for a casual wavy look which gives my heat damaged hair a well deserved break.

Lastly on my list is a product from a budget brand I’m really excited about, OGX. I tend to steer clear of budget shampoo and conditioner, as I seem to have a bad reaction to something in a lot of them; I only have to look at Tresemme to have a really dry itchy scalp and sore skin / blisters where it’s come into contact with my skin. But when a friend recommended OGX shampoo / conditioner I gave it a try and was really pleased with the results. Their products are kind to hair, don’t seem to strip colour and leave you with really silky mermaid hair.

This heat protection spray is no exception, I use it to give hair a light spritz before doing any styling and have noticed my hair is considerably less frizzy.

Night Patrol sounds like my dream product, I hate how my hair kinks in the night and ruins my straightening! Also love the smell/look of Lee Stafford stuff so that’s definitely going on my wishlist 🙂
