Sunday Riley Good Genes

Sunday Riley Good Genes

After much deliberation I picked up Sunday Riley’s Luna retinol oil. I’ve never regretted it. It’s the most expensive skincare product I’ve purchased and despite looking longingly at all the reviews of their other cult products, I pushed them from my mind. That was until I got given the Sunday Riley Good Genes serum from a friend with sensitive skin it didn’t agree with.

There’s a lot of hype around these products but I rate them both. I thought I would follow up my Luna review with my thoughts on Sunday Riley Good Genes.

Sunday Riley Good Genes Claims

This treatment is designed to exfoliate the skin, getting rid of dull skin and making it look younger through clarifying and brightening. Long term It claims to improve mild to moderate hyper pigmentation. Short term it plumps skin, reducing the harshness of wrinkles and fine lines.

I’m probably not the target market for this product. I have some very slight fine lines on my forehead and in the corner of my eyes. However on the whole I use this product preventatively and for it’s redness reducing qualities.

Sunday Riley Good Genes

This treatment can be used either before moisturising or as a mask. As with Luna it’s a potent product so I prefer to use it carefully as part of my AM skincare routine.

I have noticed a few negative points with this product. For one, there’s a strong medicinal scent which takes some getting used to. Also I have found it can make my skin oily if too much is used.

Now I have the hang of how to use it, I am finding it’s reducing the redness on my cheeks. Skin appears brighter and plumped after using, which makes this perfect for using in the morning.

As Sunday Riley Good Genes does make my skin slightly oilier, I find makeup doesn’t apply as well over it. If I’m in a rush in the morning I avoid using this treatment. Although as it’s an exfoliating product I only use it a few times a week anyway.

Would I repurchase?

All the Sunday Riley products come with a hefty price tag. As my skin currently isn’t reaping the full benefits of this product it’s not one I will be repurchasing. It’s another great product from the brand though and one I’ll be reaching for in future.

In conclusion I love the reduction in redness I’ve achieved through using this product. If it were a more affordable product I would keep it in my arsenal permanently.

    1. They are super expensive. I love Luna though and would repurchase, but besides retinoids which are all extortionate I wouldn’t splash out so much.

  1. This is a brilliantly honest review, thank you so much, the price tag is just too much for me, I have been using some really affordable but really amazing products recently for a tiny percentage of the price xxx

  2. I do love my Good Genes and have been using it for 6years +! My skin seems to love it better than yours which is why I can justify the price – I don’t use it every day, maybe once a week for a boost. I try and use one bottle a year so not tooooooo bad!! xx

    1. That’s my logic with Luna, as it worked really well but lasts SO long. It’s not so bad when you look at it that way x

    1. It did for me at least, but I think to be honest you’re too young to see any real benefits for now! Enjoy your lovely skin and spend the money on more awesome outfits 🙂

  3. I wish the Sunday Riley range wasn’t so expensive. It’s a shame this makes your skin a little more oily than usual, otherwise it sounds like a great product.

  4. I love the sound of this especially the redness part but a product has to wow me if I am to splash out x
