After finishing the renovation work on our home, I went on the hunt for a little celebratory treat for us. I’ve always loved the look of the Skandinavisk candles. As a fan of all things Scandinavian I love the names and scents they’ve chosen for their home fragrance line. I decided to get Nordlys (Norwegian for Northern Lights), as a reminder of our Arctic adventures.
The outer packaging is decorated with Northern lights illustrations and a quote about the Aurora. It was too pretty to discard so I’ve kept it behind the candle. Inside the candle is set into a ceramic holder which is also covered in Northern lights graphics. The candle comes with a wooden lid which is engraved with the Skandinavisk logo.
The candle has a 50 hour burn time and single wick. The wax is a pale green shade and the scent is floral. I’ve tried detecting what the scent is specifically but I can’t and there’s little information online about it. Mystery candle. It’s very subtle, lightly floral and smells like a nice day outside. It’s a scent which conjures up images for me. But it’s not an intense smell which lingers for hours.
When I think of Norway I think of our amazing times there. The unbelievable scenery. The chilled atmosphere and importance of the work life balance. Noticing the little things in life. I love that this brand is so inspired by that. I’m eyeing the Fjord candle next.
Whilst this candle doesn’t have the strongest scent, I love it as an ornament and keep sake when it’s not being used. When it’s burned, I love how different the scent is from my other candles.
