NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick

NYX have been flying the flag for high-end quality in a drugstore -that sounds so American … High street? Well priced? Budget?- brand and after my recent lip product haul, I was excited to finally try the Lingerie liquid matte lipsticks. I’ve read pretty much nothing but positive reviews and thought they would be my next favourite matte liquid lip but sadly I have to admit, I’m pretty disappointed with the Lingerie formula.

I opted for a blush pink shade called Babydoll, which swatched nicely on the skin and seemed to have good, even colour payoff for such a light shade.

Sadly on the lips, it was a different story. The USP of these lipsticks is their light formula, which I found more of a negative than a positive. Sure, the concept of a light liquid lipstick is a draw but in reality this applies poorly, giving really uneven coverage and blotchy colour. Any moisture on the lips results in no product applying at all making it look as if it’s been worn all day and through dinner, as soon as it’s applied.

It instantly begins to crack and feels incredibly dry, yet somehow still tacky and uncomfortable in places. I waited for the product to dry on my first application and wore it for a few hours whilst drinking, but as expected it wore badly and looked a complete mess.

Having heard so many good reviews, I decided to try applying it in a few different ways to see if I was missing the point. I like to just do one swipe of a liquid lipstick or else I find it wears badly, but attempted layering to build less of a patchy colour. With more product on the lips, it felt incredibly uncomfortable and cracked more noticeably once dry. Frustratingly despite this product wearing so poorly, it’s incredibly difficult to get off completely, I had to scrub my lips with makeup remover to get it off.

In the end I got the best result from two swipes, although as you can see from the photo this was far from ideal. To me, Lingerie is everything I don’t look for in a liquid lip, dry, uncomfortable and guaranteed to look horrendous if you dare to drink or eat. Matte liquid lipsticks aren’t the most comfortable products to wear but I’ve found a few which really work for me and I’m disappointed to say Lingerie isn’t one of them.

As with all makeup, it’s quite subjective and what works for me won’t necessarily work for someone else. I love that NYX are experimenting with so many different formulas and finishes and I was a huge fan of the variety of shades in this neutral collection.

I’d love to hear if you’ve used Lingerie and what you thought? Is it just me?

  1. I wasn’t hugely impressed with how sticky the formula is! Have no idea how well it lasts because I had to take it off my lips because the tackiness was SO off putting!

    1. Right? That’s exactly how I felt, had I not wanted to review it for the blog I would have never put it back on.

  2. I purchased one of the Lingerie lipsticks on a complete whim one day and totally regret it. I feel their Liquid Suedes range have a much better colour selection and formula altogether, so I’m not sure why they brought out another style of liquid lipsticks.
I found it didn’t sit well on my lips at all, and the colour appeared much lighter. Not a great first impression! x

    1. Such a shame, I agree! I’m guessing they wanted to make the matte which felt good to wear but IMO they didn’t succeed. Sounds like we had a similar experience πŸ™ x

  3. Such a shame that these didn’t work out, as I’ve heard such good things about NYX lip products. I haven’t tried any before but I think I’ll stick to trying the Soft Matte Lip Creams first. I’ve heard nothing but good things about those. I haven’t heard too much about these yet. xx

    1. Generally I’ve had such good experiences so this was really disappointing. When you’re there have a swatch of these and see what you think, but IMO I would go for the soft matte lip creams too. xx

    1. That’s what happened to me too, I wonder if there will be loads of disappointed people or if they are liked by some, it’s always hard to tell but I’ll be sticking to their other products for sure x

  4. I was literally so keen to try this out! I’ve been looking for an affordable liquid lipstick to try out but what a shame that these didn’t work out. I think I might try getting some of the LA Splash liquid lipsticks. I’m looking for some pretty dark colours to step out of my comfort zone a little πŸ™‚ hihi, love always Amy xx

    1. It’s such a shame! I picked up some great Colourpop liquid lipsticks from Ebay which are supposedly dupes for Kylie’s lipkits although I can’t really comment on that as I don’t have one yet … They’re worth checking out though! I’ve been loving the dark browns etc of late for the same reason :). Ah hey <3 hope you're having a great weekend xx

    1. Ah, such a shame! I can’t fault them as a brand generally so I’ll forgive them, but I was gutted as this is such a nice shade! x

  5. Loving your reviews, Amy! I’m currently catching up after being away for a while, I was so keen to give these a try too and would also have gone for this shade, it looks so pretty in the tube but such a shame it performed badly when applied. Love your photos and in depth review! πŸ˜€ xx

    1. Thank you! I hope you had an amazing time I loved the photos you shared! It’s a shame, I can see what they were trying to achieve with the lightweight formula but annoyingly for me, it didn’t really hit the mark. Ah I’m so glad, thanks Elizabeth <3<3

    1. It’s so disappointing as it looked so promising! Thanks for your comment and feedback Jordyn I really appreciate it! Ah thank you, I’ll be hunting for another in a similar shade which is easier to wear <3

    1. Let me know how you find it if you do! Same here to this point, I can’t fault them generally. Thanks, I’m a big fan of the colour. xx

  6. This was a really interesting read… I always thought these sounded interesting and worth picking up but now after reading this I have to say i’m not too sure. Love this review πŸ˜€ xoxo

  7. Yes, I have Lingerie, I really wanted to love it as I love nude lipsticks more than any other but unfortunately I found the same, slightly uncomfortable to wear! X

    1. It’s such a shame, I love the colour selection but sadly the product didn’t live up to the hype. The search for amazing nude lipsticks continues <3

  8. Aww that’s too bad as it is such a pretty color. Could be a shade thing? I find lighter lipsticks are way trickier to wear.

    1. It is! I thought this at first as I know the lighter shades tend to have patchier formulas but it felt so uncomfortable and working it into the lips didn’t work which I find normally does for lighter shades. Sadly it seems like a lot of people had a similar experience πŸ™ x

  9. Thank you so much for posting this review. I was about to purchase this shade! Glad I stumbled on this article and read your thoughts. I really love matte and NYX is also a nice brand. Most reviews I’ve read were all quite positive yet short, yours explains well. x
