NYX have been flying the flag for high-end quality in a drugstore -that sounds so American … High street? Well priced? Budget?- brand and after my recent lip product haul, I was excited to finally try the Lingerie liquid matte lipsticks. I’ve read pretty much nothing but positive reviews and thought they would be my next favourite matte liquid lip but sadly I have to admit, I’m pretty disappointed with the Lingerie formula.
I opted for a blush pink shade called Babydoll, which swatched nicely on the skin and seemed to have good, even colour payoff for such a light shade.

Sadly on the lips, it was a different story. The USP of these lipsticks is their light formula, which I found more of a negative than a positive. Sure, the concept of a light liquid lipstick is a draw but in reality this applies poorly, giving really uneven coverage and blotchy colour. Any moisture on the lips results in no product applying at all making it look as if it’s been worn all day and through dinner, as soon as it’s applied.
It instantly begins to crack and feels incredibly dry, yet somehow still tacky and uncomfortable in places. I waited for the product to dry on my first application and wore it for a few hours whilst drinking, but as expected it wore badly and looked a complete mess.
Having heard so many good reviews, I decided to try applying it in a few different ways to see if I was missing the point. I like to just do one swipe of a liquid lipstick or else I find it wears badly, but attempted layering to build less of a patchy colour. With more product on the lips, it felt incredibly uncomfortable and cracked more noticeably once dry. Frustratingly despite this product wearing so poorly, it’s incredibly difficult to get off completely, I had to scrub my lips with makeup remover to get it off.
In the end I got the best result from two swipes, although as you can see from the photo this was far from ideal. To me, Lingerie is everything I don’t look for in a liquid lip, dry, uncomfortable and guaranteed to look horrendous if you dare to drink or eat. Matte liquid lipsticks aren’t the most comfortable products to wear but I’ve found a few which really work for me and I’m disappointed to say Lingerie isn’t one of them.
As with all makeup, it’s quite subjective and what works for me won’t necessarily work for someone else. I love that NYX are experimenting with so many different formulas and finishes and I was a huge fan of the variety of shades in this neutral collection.
I’d love to hear if you’ve used Lingerie and what you thought? Is it just me?
