My Wedding – Flowers & Cars

3rd September 2016

You know I’m partial to a succulent or 23984 so they naturally had to feature in my bouquet. Before planning a wedding -or two- I had never really thought about flowers all that much but after realising the possibilities -our UK wedding would have been decorated heavily with greenery and flowers- I’ve become border-line obsessed and am already thinking about the next occassion where I can work with a florist and decorate something.

Our Icelandic florist did an amazing job and I adored our wedding flowers. Considering we organized it all from the UK and they had to get some flowers in from America as not a lot grows naturally in Iceland, I was blown away with how perfect they were. I wanted our flowers to be mostly greenery and kind of boho, with only white flowers and a few succulents included.

I had wanted to freeze dry my bouquet and keep it but it was totally battered by the end of the day, although thankfully I’ve got lots of photos of it.

My bridesmaids had smaller versions of my bouquet and the boys had button holes featuring a succulent and some greenery. Our mum’s had matching coursages which were tied with pretty ivory ribbons.

When it came to wedding cars, I had never been bothered and we concluded it wasn’t something we would use much of our budget for. When we decided to elope though we had to reconsider this as we needed vehicles capable of getting us all around and over some difficult terrain, in unpredictable weather. We both knew straight away we wanted to hire a superjeep and loved that we could fit our whole party in the one car.

We hired a white superjeep and a driver from Extreme Iceland who would take us to the different spots Aaron and I had selected. Our driver was called Bjorn and he entertained us as we drove with stories about Iceland. Superjeeps are really high up so getting in and out with my dress was a bit of a logistical nightmare, somehow we managed to get me in and fit everyone else in with my dress.

Bjorn is a glacier guide by day, so he was the perfect person to help us safely get to our wedding ‘venue’. Whilst we didn’t set out wanting wedding cars at all, our white superjeep complete with wedding bows made the day possible and fitted our wedding perfectly. Bjorn was brilliant and felt like an extra wedding guest, he took us to some places we hadn’t planned for photos and helped make the day run perfectly.

We had to drive for almost two hours to reach Sólheimajökull glacier, although it felt a lot quicker than that. As we approached the glacier I started to feel incredibly nervous and was literally shaking by the time we arrived.

Love your bouquet! I love that you have so many great and original photos from your wedding and I love when a photographer does something different and “plays” with things instead of taking the same typical wedding photos! The photo of you entering the car is my favourite 🙂

Thanks Yiota :). We were really lucky in that respect, my Mother-in-law is a photographer and she did all our photos. I love how she did them. Thank you 🙂 It was such a hassle with that dress haha but I managed to squeeze in x

Gosh, I LOVE your bouquet! It’s incredible that they flew the flowers in. Just perfect!
