My PM Skincare Routine

I recently wrote about my AM skincare routine, where I outlined the products I’ve been using each morning and which work well for my skin. This post is a follow up to that, where I’ll be talking about my PM skincare routine and the products I’m loving currently.

In the evening I always double cleanse, starting with a gel or cream cleanser to get the bulk of my makeup off. I’ve been using this balancing cleanser from Alpha H which contains Aloe Vera, I find it leaves skin feeling very clean and lifts makeup easily. For my second cleanse I always use a cleansing balm and have a few on rotation, but am presently using Emma Hardie’s Amazing Face balm which is as the name suggests, amazing. Skin feels really clean afterwards but I find these products are gentle enough to not leave my skin feeling dry after two cleanses.

As in the morning I acid tone, using my favourite Pixi Glow Tonic. I find I am able to use this in conjunction with the Alpha H Liquid Gold treatment without issues but built up usage slowly without acid toning when I first began using Alpha H.

After toning I apply eye cream to my under eye and lids.

I then alternate between serums / treatments, using Luna Sunday Riley retinol oil every other night and Alpha H Liquid Gold in-between. I do find Alpha H to be very harsh so use it carefully and with lots of moisturiser afterwards, although it makes my skin look a lot better so it’s worth doing.

If my skin feels like it needs it and is a bit dry, I love using this Sarah Chapman Skinesis serum which was gifted to me by a friend who could no longer use it. It’s become a staple in my skincare routine as it can take dry even flaking skin back to normal almost instantly.

Last up I always finish with a good moisturiser. I know you can use Alpha H without one but for me that feels way too harsh. I’ve been loving the Kate Somerville moisturizers lately, her goat milk and oil free formulas being my favourites. I alternate between them depending on how my skin feels.

Writing down all the products I use each day does make this routine sound like a complete pain … It isn’t honestly! I have all my skincare stuff out on my vanity with cotton pads, so I can quickly do my skin before going out in the morning or going to bed. Whilst some of the products are at the pricier end of things, they last for ages and have such a good effect, I don’t mind splurging. Prevention is better than cure and all that.

    1. I need to remember to do face masks more regularly, I do them sporadically at the moment but will be popping one on tonight 🙂

    1. Thanks Gemma! I think it would do, it feels very cooling on application and helps make me look like less of a zombie in the morning <3

    1. I swear by the Emma Hardie balm, I’ve repurchased it for the past 3 years and wouldn’t be without it. Thanks Zoe <3

  1. The Sarah Chapman Intense Hydration Booster is one of my holy-grail serums, I can’t be without it in my skincare stash! I really don’t get on with the Alpha-H Liquid Gold or Pixi Glow Tonic, though. I find them way too harsh for my skin and, even if I use them only one night a week, they leave my skin sore and itchy! Instead, I use the Clarins Brightening Exfoliating Toner. It’s just as effective at smoothing the skin, but it doesn’t irritate my skin at all.

    1. Totally! Ah that’s a shame, I know they are quite harsh and funnily enough one of the acid toners I have on rotation is the Clarins one you mentioned, which I also love <3

  2. I absolutely love the Emma Hardie balm but it’s seemed to work it’s way out of my rotation- thanks for reminding me how much I love it! I got a Liquid Gold sample size in an advent calendar before Christmas but was worried it might be a little harsh, now I really want to give it a go, I’m so glad I didn’t give it away!

    1. It’s funny how things do that isn’t it? I hope you love Liquid Gold, when I started using it I just did it once a week and built it up. Let me know what you think of it <3

    1. Haha I’m going to come and poke you with a stick each evening to remind you. In all honesty I didn’t start doing this until I was 26 ish I think and even then it seemed slightly premature. I think it’s pointless wasting money on products for things you don’t need, I added things one by one to my routine based on what my skin needed x

  3. You have some great products in your pm routine! I’ve always been a fan of the Benefit eye cream and have heard so many great things about the night oil too! x
