My Cruelty-Free Summer Skin Essentials *

Cruelty-free Summer Essentials

Summer for me means a few things; Wearing black whilst sweltering. Awkwardly trying to keep my hair and makeup in check. Exposing my vampiric legs. Going red then pealing if I dare to step outside. And the dreaded chub rub. Over the years I’ve found various ways to help me survive. But this year I have three new cruelty-free Summer saviours I’m loving. And we’ve even had some uncharacteristic hot weather in Wales to truly put them to the test.

Green People Scent-Free Facial Sunscreen

Green People sent me two products from their range of cruelty-free suncare. Their factor 30 scent-free sunscreen and hydrating aftersun for sensitive skin. I went with a friend to her skincare consultation with Harley Street based dermatologist Dr Sam Bunting and she instilled in us the need to wear SPF daily. It stuck with me, but I’d be lying if I said I had kept it up religiously. We don’t get a lot of proper sunny weather in Wales and when we do, it’s often quite novel. I don’t apply SPF daily most of the time and so can forget. Although I do tend to wear products which contain SPF throughout the warmer months.

That said, I know that it’s important to wear SPF on it’s own. So I’ve been on the hunt for a decent facial SPF which my makeup sits well on top of. Something so effortless to apply I would keep it up. And something which doesn’t feel greasy.

The Green People Facial SPF has become a cruelty-free Summer essential for me, as it’s so comfortable to wear. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel heavy or greasy. Makeup sits well on top of it and it stopped me from burning in full sun. This facial sunscreen is also scent free and vegan.

The Green People factor 30 scent-free sunscreen costs £18 direct from their website.

Green People Hydrating After Sun

The Green People hydrating aftersun is another vegan product. It states it can be worn on both the face and body, which I have to admit I was initially wary of. However after a day at the beach, I used this as on my face and had no issues. It’s quickly absorbed but super hydrating with a cooling sensation.

Both of the Green People suncare products are cruelty-free Summer heros that I keep in my handbag. I’m nearly out of the SPF and would definitely purchase it. I love that not only are the brand committed to cruelty-free cosmetics, they’re natural skincare specialists with a focus on organic ingredients.

The Green People hydrating aftersun costs £10.50 direct from their website.

Essence primer and Silky underwear

Essence You Better Work Gym-Proof Makeup Primer

I was sent this primer to try a while back and it’s become my current go-to. Whilst I haven’t tested it in the gym the hot weather we’ve had has really put it through it’s paces. It’s SPF 20 and whilst it has a green tinge, it leaves no cast once absorbed. I find this primer really comfortable to wear, it’s lightweight but stops makeup budging even when sweating.

The Essence You Better Work Gym-Proof Makeup Primer is available from Wilko for £3.50. Bargain!

Silky Underwear Dusting Powder

A bottle of this is vital during the Summer. It’s a finely milled powder, which feels a bit like talc and stops chafing, rubbing and general Summer-induced uncomfortableness. It’s made with cocoa butter and feels a lot more comfortable than alternatives like gels.

Lush Silky Underwear dusting powder costs £6.95 and can be bought online or in-store.
